-Pressure relief valve-
Thewaterheaterhasahigh-temperatureshutoffswitchbuilt inasastandardsafetyfeature(calleda
Hi-Limitswitch)thereforea“pressure only” relief valve is required.
• Thisunitdoesnotcomewithanapprovedpressurereliefvalve.
• Anapprovedpressurereliefvalvemustbeinstalledonthehotwateroutlet.
• The pressure relief valve must conform to CAN 1-4.4andinstallationmustfollowlocalcodes.
• The discharge capacity must be at least 160,000BTU/hfortheT-H3J-DV/240H,180,000BTU/hforthe
T-H3S-DV/340H,and199,000BTU/hfortheT-H3-DV/540H.
• Thepressurereliefvalveneedstoberatedforamaximumof1MPa(150psi).
• Thedischargepipingforthepressurereliefvalvemustbedirectedsothatthehotwatercannotsplash
on anyone or on nearby equipment.
• Attach the discharge tube to the pressure relief valve and run the end of the tube to within 152
mm(6in.)fromthefloor.Thisdischargetubemustallowfreeandcompletedrainagewithoutany
restrictions.
• Ifthepressurereliefvalveinstalledonthewaterheaterdischargesperiodically,thismaybeduetoa
defective thermal expansion tank or defective pressure relief valve.
• The pressure relief valve must be manually operated periodically to check for correct operation.
• Novalvemustbeplacedbetweenthereliefvalveandthewaterheater.
CONDENSATE DRAIN
• Thewaterheaterdoesnotincludeabuilt-incondensateneutralizercartridgeforreducingthepHlevel
ofcondensatewater.Iflocalcodesdictatethatcondensatemustbeneutralizedpriortodrainage,a
condensate neutralizer must be installed. An accessory Neutralizer assembly is sold separately.
• In the absence of applicable local codes and regulations, the manufacturer recommends that
condensate be disposed of into a standard drain. Connect a drain tube from the condensate drain port
(shownbelow)locatedonthebottomofthewaterheatertoastandarddrain.
